All faculty are encouraged to support their students through participation in commencement exercises. Your presence exhibits UAlbany pride and is important to your students and their families on this momentous occasion. Please note that Emeritus Faculty are considered Faculty and should use the same guidelines and information as detailed herein.

 

Participation

Faculty may participate in one of  the following ways:

1. Marching Faculty
   Marching faculty will take part in the processional and be seated on stage. The deadline to RSVP is November 16 so that  all participants may be accommodated on the stage. There is no rehearsal for the Marching faculty. To RSVP, simply e-mail commencement@uamail.albany.edu and place "Marching Faculty" in the subject line, your name, department and office address. Assembly time and location will be sent to you via e-mail on Friday, November 20.
   
2. Hooding Faculty
   If you plan to hood a doctoral candidate during the ceremony, contact Jonathan Bartow, Assistant Dean for Graduate Studies at:
   jbartow@uamail.albany.edu . Jon will coordinate the doctoral hooding portion of the ceremony and will provide you with further detail. Contact the Bookstore to order your regalia. *Please remember to stop on the "X", denoted with tape on the floor of the stage, to hood your student.          

Logistics

To reserve your seat on stage,  please e-mail Judith Lasher at Commencement@uamail.albany.edu and include the following:
Your full name; department; and campus address.

On the day of the ceremony, faculty should plan to arrive no later than Noon to the gymnasium inside the Physical Education building, opposite the SEFCU Arena. Traffic will be heavy so factor at least 15 minutes into your commute to find parking and arrive on site. Parking will be available in the Arena lot as well as the Dutch Gold lot. There will be light refreshments inside the Hall of Fame room, located in the SEFCU Arena (1st floor) from 10:30am - Noon.

Staff will assist you with line up and he procession once inside the gymnasium.

The ceremony will be approximately 2 hours in duration.

Regalia Rental
Members of the teaching faculty who wish to rent academic regalia should visit the University Bookstore or complete the Faculty Regalia Order form by November 9 if you want to order a specific hood. All orders placed after November 9 will come with a UAlbany hood. All rental orders must be placed no later than November 23. This is the last day for faculty to order Ph.D. regalia from the University Bookstore.
