Main University-Wide Events

The following is the schedule of events for the Spring Commencement weekend. University-wide events are listed first, followed by an alphabetical listing of individual recognition events. All guest seating at commencement ceremonies is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Please take note of the ceremony participation color key below which will help illustrate what events are for undergraduate students, graduate students or combined events for both undergrad and grad students.

Friday, May 13, 2016 at 1:00 p.m.

Combined Undergraduate & Graduate Ceremony honoring the achievements of graduating Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and Ally students.

Location: Campus Center Ballroom
Duration: 1.5 hours with reception to follow.
Maximum of 7 guests per student.

GRADUATE CEREMONY
Saturday, May 14, 2016 at 9:00 a.m.

The main university-wide ceremony for all master's, certificate, and doctoral candidates.
Graduate students check in to assembly area by 8:00 a.m.

Location: Athletics Complex - SEFCU Arena
Tickets are not required for guests, seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. 
Duration: ~
2 hours and 15 minutes.
All master's, certificate, and doctoral candidates will cross the stage to have their names read.

Maximum of 8 guests per student.
Students: RSVP via MyUAlbany.


Parking on SATURDAY
NO STUDENT DROP-OFFS are allowed at SEFCU Arena.
Please utilize the Athletic Complex and Dutch Quad Gold parking lots. A limited number of handicapped parking spaces for vehicles with the appropriate tag will be available in the West Arena lot. This is also the drop-off location for guests with mobility issues only. A University Police Officer will be present to assist with directions.

Dutch Quad Shuttle Service on SATURDAY
Wheelchair accessible shuttles will travel between the Dutch Quad Gold lot and the SEFCU Arena before and after the ceremony. Graduates and guests should factor 20 minutes into their travel time to secure parking and arrive at the ceremony site.

Venue Accessibility on SATURDAY
The SEFCU Arena is equipped with accessible restrooms and seating options. A seating area in the arena will be reserved for guests along with 2 escorts.

Any guest requiring wheelchair transport is recommended to bring their own.

Commencement Mass

Saturday, May 14, 2016 at 7:00 p.m.

Combined University-wide mass for all undergraduate & graduates and their families.

Location: Campus Center, Assembly Hall
Maximum of 10 guests per student.

Torch Night
Saturday, May 14, 2016 at 8:30 p.m.

Witness the ceremonial transition from student to alumni and a passing of the torch of knowledge as seniors are symbolically welcomed into the Alumni Association, followed by a fireworks display.

Location: on the Academic Podium
Tickets are not required for guests, seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.
Duration: ~1 hour.
This ceremony will occur outdoors, rain or shin, please dress appropriately.

Maximum of 10 guests per student.

UNDERGRADUATE CEREMONY
Sunday, May 15, 2016 at 10:00 a.m.

The main university-wide ceremony to formally confer all bachelor's degrees.
Undergraduate students check in to assembly area tents by 9:00 a.m.

Location: outdoors on the Entry Plaza Lawn
Tickets are not required for guests, seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.
Duration: ~1 hour 20 minutes.
This ceremony will occur outdoors, rain or shine, please dress appropriately.
Due to the size of the graduating class, individual students will not cross the stage or have their names read - students will be recognized in groups by school or college.
Maximum of 10 guests per student.

Parking on SUNDAY
NO DROP-OFFS are allowed at Collins Circle
as it will be closed to all public traffic on Sunday. Guests Parking will be available in Colonial Quad and State Quad Gold lots, which are a short 5 - 8 minute walk to the ceremony. Dutch Quad Gold lot is also open with shuttle service provided. A limited number of handicapped parking spaces for vehicles with the appropriate tag will be available at the State Quad Purple (Faculty) lot. University Police Officers will be present on roadways to assist with directions.

Dutch Quad Shuttle Service on SUNDAY
Wheelchair accessible shuttles will be available from the Dutch Quad parking lot dropping all guests off at the Entry Plaza Lawn (at Collins Circle). After the ceremony, pick-up will be at the same location at the back of the Entry Plaza Lawn seating area for a return trip to Dutch Quad parking lot. Graduates and guests should factor 20 minutes into their travel time to secure parking and arrive at the ceremony site.

Venue Accessibility on SUNDAY
There will be a seating area on the Entry Plaza lawn reserved for guests with accessibility needs along with 1 escort. Accessible portable toilets will be available near this seating section. Commencement staff will provide shuttle service via golf cart from the handicapped parking lot to the reserved seating section before and after the ceremony has concluded.

Any guest requiring wheelchair transport is recommended to bring their own.

This university-wide undergraduate degree-conferral ceremony will be available online via web-streaming video.

Individual Recognition Events

The following is an alphabetical listing of individual recognition events scheduled for the Spring Commencement weekend. Please take note of the ceremony participation color key below which will help illustrate what events are for undergraduate students, graduate students or combined events for both undergrad and grad students.

Academic departments may require additional paperwork from students to participate in the following ceremonies. Additionally, some of these events may require physical tickets for ALL non-graduates who are guests (including any current students) in attendance. All guest seating at commencement ceremonies is on a first-come, first-served basis. Please monitor all correspondence from your department regarding commencement.
