Campus Cleanup Day

Campus Cleanup Day 2016 - Tuesday, April 26th (Rain Date Thursday, April 28th)

Due to inclement weather predicted on Tuesday, we will be moving Cleanup Day to Thursday, April 28th.

The onset of spring always brings a sense of excitement to our UAlbany campuses as we look forward to the coming of warm weather, and what has become one of our most anticipated community traditions:  Spring Cleanup Day.  We are delighted to invite you to join us for the University's Twentieth Annual Campus Cleanup Day on Tuesday, April 26th, 2016.

Beginning with fewer than 100 participants in 1997, we now routinely exceed 500 volunteers. Cleanup Day is a time when faculty, students, staff and administrators work side by side to prepare the campuses for Commencement Weekend and other signature events that occur during the late spring and summer.  If you have not been a part of this effort previously, you will be amazed at the transformation the campuses undergo in a single day with 500 of us pitching in to give our Grounds Department a helping hand.  This is a great opportunity to meet members of the university community whom you might not encounter on a daily basis, and to invest yourself in the tremendous community spirit that is a hallmark of UAlbany.

If you are interested in 'light duty', we can offer you a position as site supervisor.  You can check volunteers in and distribute tools and supplies to your site workers.  You will also check student volunteers in and out if they would like to register for community service hours for the day.

A note to student groups - each person has to register individually, but if you would like to select a particular site to work on as a group, we can make a note on the registration site.

Morning shift is 9:00am until 12:00 noon

Lunch will be from 12:00 to 1:00pm
Lunch is provided by UAS, and will be served in the SEFCU Hall of Fame Room Uptown, and the cafeterias of the Downtown and East Campuses.  The Uptown Campus will offer both kosher and gluten-free options.  Downtown volunteers receive a coupon to go through the Husted Cafe line.  East Campus volunteers may elect a gluten-free meal, but that kitchen is not equipped to provide Kosher meals.
Afternoon shift will run from 1:00pm to 4:00pm.
If you are unable to offer a full day from your busy schedule, please consider joining us for an hour.  Work opportunities are available at all of our campuses.
If you decide to work all day, you can volunteer for a different work areas in the morning and afternoon.  Please go to the signup tab on this page to register for your preferences.  After registering, you will receive a confirming e-mail and code.  The code can be used to revisit the site to modify your assignments if needed.

Please wear comfortable clothes and shoes suitable for outside work and bring a hat and sunscreen.  Work gloves and tools will be provided.

Campus Cleanup is also a vital component of the University's Stormwater Management Program.  Leaves, debris and litter can result in pollutants entering the University storm sewer system, which ultimately discharges to nearby streams and the Hudson River.
