About the Center
Established in 2002, the Center
for Institutional Investment Management (CIIM) seeks to promote basic and applied
research in the area of institutional money management with the objective of
furthering knowledge and understanding of the role, functions, and
responsibilities of money managers.
The Center’s plan is to achieve
national prominence in the next five to seven years through the following
activities:
Faculty driven:
-
Promoting research on institutional investment management through faculty research grants, faculty paper presentations at conferences.
- Fostering faculty and student research through seminars and invited speakers
- Soliciting externally-funded research, including the conduct of contract research for the benefit of individual institutional investors.
- Disseminating relevant and timely research through publications in academic and applied journals and through an electronic web-based Working Paper Series.
Student driven:
- Support our Financial Analyst Program through research, internships and placement;
- Sponsor student internships, independent studies and joint research with faculty;
- Establishing strong ties with institutional investors and alumni in an effort to promote the Financial Analyst Program;
- Provide graduate and undergraduate students with a unique opportunity to study and receive hands-on training in the area of institutional money management.
Industry relations:
- Establishing relationships and cooperative links with major regulatory agencies, trade organization and certification bodies such as the SEC, the NYSE and NASDAQ, the Investment Company Institute, AIMR (CFA), and AICPA (CPA);
- Support faculty travel to industry conferences to represent and promote the center;
- Bringing together academicians and practitioners to address various issues and problems related to institutional investing;
- Establishing strong ties with institutional investors and alumni as a means of keeping the basic focus of the center on practical institutional investment issues.
Resource driven:
- Acquiring and maintaining databases such as CRSP mutual fund data, Morningstar, Bloomberg, Hedge Fund Database, PSN, and SEC filings;
- Conduct conferences or seminars on timely issues for industry professionals;
- Support faculty travel and research related to institutional investment;
- Support Financial Analyst Program students through information session with faculty, field trips, speakers and research funding.
