About
The Department of Chemistry is growing and evolving rapidly. There are presently fifteen full-time faculty and six full-time staff members working with approximately forty graduate students and ten post-doctoral coworkers. In addition to the central areas of chemistry, the diversity of research interests spanned by the faculty include material science, biochemistry, organic synthesis, inorganic synthesis, biophysical chemistry, and medicinal chemistry. These provide a wide range of research opportunities to students on both the graduate and undergraduate level.
On the graduate level, nearly all our students are supported with a teaching assistantship or research assistantship over the course of their studies. Our graduate student body is international in composition and we enjoy diverse classes and research groups as a result. Research opportunities for interested undergrad students are also available. The balanced student-faculty ratio insures that every graduate student will have ample opportunity for interaction with the faculty throughout their graduate study.
The Department of Chemistry continuously seeks interdisciplinary collaborations with our Biology and Physics neighbors in addition to building courses with the new School of Nanosciences and Nanoengineering.
