Reading planned of works in Technology Plays project
ALBANY - A staged reading of winning and commissioned work
from Capital Repertory Theatre's Technology Plays project
will take place on Monday at Cap Rep, 111 North Pearl St.
Commissioned playwrights William Kennedy and Richard Dresser
will be attendance as well as the playwrights whose plays
won the local and student contests.
Daniel Whalen, a native of Pittsburgh who now resides in
Maryland, won the contest for University at Albany undergraduate
and graduate students.
The winning playwrights for those living in the Capital Region
were Daniel Ho of Albany; Stacey Orisini of Albany; and Malcolm
Messersmith, New Baltimore.
The reading will reunite Paul Taviani and Cody Nickell, along
with other Equity actors and local non-Equity actors participating.
Taviani was seen as Einstein in Capital Rep's "Picasso
at the Lapin Agile" and Birdie Bowers in "Terra
Nova." Nickell portrayed Picasso in "Picasso at
the Lapin Agile."
The Technology Play Project was intended to explore the impact
of technology on humans and modern living.
The series of five- to seven-minute interactive plays highlights
the role of technology in modern life, the impact modern technology
has on people's lives and the complex relationship between
humans and machines.
Each play features a different communication medium, including
e-mail, instant messaging, answering machines, video streaming
and ATMs.
Pulitzer Prize-winning author Kennedy and Obie-Award-winning
playwright Dresser contributed commissioned works.
Hosted by the University at Albany's HUMAN-E-TECH and Capital Rep, Monday's reading will begin at 6 p.m. with
a reception followed by the readings at 7 p.m.
Tickets for the evening will cost $35.
