Gender and Globalization in the Americas: A Feminist Encuentro
The Center for Latino, Latin American, and Caribbean Studies
(CELAC), and the Institute for Research on Women (IROW) at the University
at Albany, SUNY, the Centro de Investigación en Estudios de la Mujer
(CIEM) at the University of Costa Rica, and the LASA Feminist and Gender
Studies Section are cosponsoring a one-day Feminist Encuentro on Gender
and Globalization in the Americas to be held at the University of Costa
Rica on Tuesday, April 1, 2003. The interdisciplinary Encuentro will focus
on how globalization is changing the lives of Latin American women at the
workplace and in the household. The event also includes a meeting of invited
U.S. and Latin American feminist scholars and journal editors to discuss
strategies for scholarly collaboration. Please note that those interested
in attending should seek support from their own institutions for travel
and lodging expenses since no funding is available for this purpose. This
event is made possible by a LASA/Ford Foundation small grant and is being
coordinated by Edna Acosta-Belen and Christine E. Bose (University at Albany,
SUNY), and Ana Cecilia Escalante (University of Costa Rica).
