Background:
The Gender Studies in Global Perspective Graduate Training Project
at the University at Albany, SUNY, co-sponsored by the Center for Latino,
Latin American, and Caribbean Studies (CELAC) and the Institute for Research
on Women (IROW), sponsors assistantships for M.A. degree students
who will specialize, through course work or thesis research, in gender
issues or women’s studies in global perspective. In order to be considered
for a Master’s assistantship, a student must apply and be admitted to
a University at Albany M.A. degree program that will provide the student
with the opportunity to undertake course work or conduct research with
an emphasis on gender/women’s studies in global perspective. Assistantship
awards include a $8,000 academic year stipend and tuition. Each award will
be for a maximum of two years, renewable upon review of first year work.
The Awards Selection Committee will be reviewing applications beginning
on March 15 of each academic year. Further information about this project,
funded by the Ford Foundation, is available at the web site of either center:
(CELAC) www.albany.edu/celac or (IROW) www.albany.edu/irow
Graduate students receiving these assistantships will be expected to
meet with the Award Selection Committee at the beginning of the frist semester
to be assigned a mentor and to agree upon a program of study. You will
be expected to take one core course on global gender issues and to meet
