Introduction

Michael is an experienced student affairs professional with over 15 years in higher education working in--or supervising--residence life, student conduct, student activities, academic support, leadership development, first year experience, community engagement and service, admissions, advising, and health services. He has experience with leading, collaborating, and implementing programs at several institutions. His efforts focus on striving for successful transition of new students and increased retention and engagement of the students he serves.

Mr. Baumgardner earned an M.A. in Higher Education Administration from the Teachers College of Columbia University in New York City and a B.A. in Sociology/Anthropology from Middlebury College in Vermont where he also played football. He is also finishing an M.S. in Organizational Management from The Sage Colleges. A native of nearby Guilderland, NY, Mike has worked at colleges and universities across the country and most recently served as the associate vice president and dean of students at a neighboring Russell Sage College.

Job Duties

Directs all functions of the College of Emergency Preparedness, Homeland Security, and Cybersecurity undergraduate and graduate student services for CEHC majors, including advisement, admissions and transfer evaluation. He also oversees undergraduate and graduate recruitment, engagement, and student success initiatives while serving as the primary advisor and administrative advocate for all undergraduate and graduate majors. Mike also supports students as liaison between CEHC and other offices and departments across the University to ensure the personal and academic well-being and success of CEHC students.
