Introducing the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences

We are pleased to announce that, effective July 1, 2015, the College of Computing and Information (CCI) will be known as the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences. New multidisciplinary programs that build on the innovation established by CCI and its predecessors will allow UAlbany to create new paths of excellence in information, computing and, engineering studies and to better educate students to meet the demands of our local industries.

We expect that the future home of the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences will be located in the Schuyler Building on the downtown campus.

Kim L. Boyer Named Interim Dean of College of Engineering and Applied Sciences

Kim L. Boyer, dean of the University at Albany's College of Engineering and Applied ScienceWe are honored to welcome to the University Kim L. Boyer, professor and chair of the new Department of Computer Engineering, effective July 1, 2015. Kim will also serve as interim dean of the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences until a national search secures a permanent dean.   

Dr. Boyer joins UAlbany from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute where he served as the department head of the Electrical, Computer and Systems Engineering Department for seven years. He also has served in various appointments at The Ohio State University and the University of Bern, Switzerland. In 1986, he earned his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University, and also received Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Electrical Engineering from Purdue.

Department of Computer Science

Students here learn about algorithms (a set of rules for computations) and the problems they might solve. Computer Science leads to careers in programming, systems analysis, network administration, database development, security analysis, IT, software engineering, and more.

Department of Informatics

Informatics courses enhance all disciplines at UAlbany by introducing multiple technology skills. Careers could include web developer/designer, information assurance and cybersecurity professional, database administrator, and others.

Department of Information Studies

Students here learn how information is created, organized, represented, stored, retrieved, and used. Careers could include information technology specialist, librarian, archivist, school library media specialist, network or database administrator, and more.

Life Science funded by Presidential Research Initiative at UAlbany
University Awards 14 Research Projects Driving Innovation Fourteen research projects directed by University at Albany faculty, whose expertise encompasses a wide range of academic disciplines, are awarded the first grants of the University’s Presidential Initiatives Fund for Research and Scholarship to support new and innovative research that may lead to large-scale investigator awards.
