  • Sue R. Faerman, Ph.D., Named Interim Dean of CCI

     Dr. Faerman, Distinguished Teaching Professor and Collins Fellow, will direct the College while Dean Peter Bloniarz fulfills his new assignment as Executive Director and Senior Policy Advisor for Governor Cuomo's Cyber Security Advisory Board.  Dr. Faerman, formerly the Senior Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education, has a long and notable career at UAlbany as a faculty member and administrator.



  • Governor Cuomo Names UAlbany Computing & Information Dean to Lead NYS Cyber Security Advisory Board

    Peter Bloniarz will be the Executive Director and Senior Policy Advisor to the Governor’s Cyber Advisory Board.

  • Dr. Pardo named by Governor Cuomo to serve as the State’s Open NY Policy Advisor

    In a press release dated September 20, 2013, Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced that Andrew Nicklin, Dr. James Hendler, and Dr. Theresa Pardo, three experts in improving government transparency through technology, will join the Open NY team to assist to improve government performance and enhance citizen engagement. Dr. Theresa Pardo will serve as the State’s Open NY Policy Advisor.



  • Dr. Jennifer Goodall, Ph.D. '01, Receives UAlbany’s 2013 Bread and Roses Award

    Dr. Jennifer Goodall, Assistant Dean and Director of the College’s Women in Technology Program, is the 2013 recipient of the University at Albany's Bread and Roses Award.  

     

    This award is given by the Women’s Community at UAlbany to individuals who have made extraordinary contributions on behalf of gender equity that enhance the quality of life for women at the University.

  • Second Annual Bunshaft Lecture featured Jonathan Rochelle of Google Docs fame

    Presented by The Bunshaft Endowment in the College of Computing and Information, Jonathan Rochelle '85, Director of Product Management for Google Apps, spoke on Friday, April 5, 2013 at the Campus Center Assembly Hall. He shared his advice on becoming and staying innovative.

  • Author Steven Levy visited UAlbany on November 16

    Steven Levy, technology journalist and author of the inside story of Google, visited UAlbany on November 16 for two reading sessions.  The free event was co-sponsored by the New York State Writer's Institute, and The College of Computing and Information.



  • Dr. Hemalata Iyer elected to the Board of the International Society for Knowledge Organization

    Dr. Iyer was recently elected to the Executive Board of the International Society for Knowledge Organization.  ISKO is a leading international society whose mission is to advance conceptual work in knowledge organization in all forms, for all kinds of purposes.



  • Stefl-Mabry approved for candidacy on the Fulbright Specialist Roster

    Joette Stefl-Mabry has been approved for candidacy on the Fulbright Specialist Roster.The Roster is a list of all approved candidates who are eligible to be matched with incoming program requests from overseas academic institutions for Fulbright Specialists.

3D Hands made at University at Albany

UAlbany Uses 3D Technology to Create Prosthetic Hands for Children

When sophomore computer science major Elliott Weintraub heard from Department of Informatics lecturer Jonathan Muckell about the opportunity to build a 3D prosthetic hand for a child, he jumped at the chance. The department began the project in the fall semester and accelerated it to complete hands for four children by the holidays.
