| Funding for Graduate School | How can Career Services help? |
There are two basic types of financial aid: Need-based (determined by financial need) and Merit-based (determined by performance or achievement). Sources of aid include loans (which need to be repaid), Grants, Scholarships, & Fellowships (which generally do not need to be repaid), and Tuition-remission programs. The majority of funding comes from government sources and individual institutions. External sources of aid include private industry and local/national organizations/agencies. The University at Albany's Financial Aid page describes this in more detail. Be sure to check with individual institutions for additional scholarship or assistantship (i.e., research, teaching, & Resident Director) opportunities. The following sections contain a listing of web resources links as well as library resources housed at Career Services to assist you.
