CCI Partners With New York State on Cyber Security
CCI is partnering with New York State on several fronts to develop ways of making computer systems more secure against hackers, spies and terrorists by such activities as:
Maintaining the New York State Center for Information Forensics and Assurance (CIFA) in partnership with SUNY, the state Office of Cyber Security and Critical Infrastructure Coordination and the State Police. Using the “teaching hospital” model, CIFA educates state and local government employees.
Co-sponsoring the annual New York State Cyber Security Conference. With 1,000 attendees, the 2006 conference featured 70 workshops and an academic symposium track with peer-reviewed research. Prof. Sanjay Goel of the UAlbany School of Business and Laura Iwan of CSCIC co-chaired.
Co-sponsoring the 3rd Annual New York State Cyber Security Awareness Conference in 2007, to help keep kids safe online.
William Pelgrin, Director, NYS Office of Cyber Security and Critical Infrastructure Coordination said, “These partnerships provide a vital link for students and faculty members to apply their knowledge by working on real world problems that are at the forefront of information security issues.”
Collaboration Creates Connections
By collaborating with many other organizations, CCI students and faculty share their expertise and enrich the community. The targeted application of information and technology helps corporate and community groups advance their missions with greater impact and success.
A recent CCI joint program with nine Capital Region school districts, to develop innovative ways to teach K-12 students over the Internet, is a prime example. Another is CCI faculty’s collaboration with UAlbany’s Center for Technology in Government to produce a report on information needs after the 9-11 attack on the World Trade Center.
Organizations can partner with CCI on research projects, educational development, employee and intern recruitment, or the advancement of shared missions and interests. Possibilities include:
Possibilities include:
