Chair of the Department of Informatics, Stephen DeLong, Ph.D.
Message from the Chair
Kahlil Gibran said it long before computers, but the thought is equally valid today: "A little knowledge that acts is worth infinitely more than much knowledge that is idle."
Putting knowledge into action is at the core of the Department of Informatics. Whether people are building robots, developing new vaccines or analyzing crime patterns, technology and information science are a vital part to help their organization succeed.
The Informatics courses complement all disciplines at UAlbany by introducing an IT perspective (e.g., programming, online searching and database applications) to any field. It can apply to the fine arts as easily as science and business.
Learning to apply technology effectively gives students the strong foundation they need to succeed in the Information Age.
