College of Computing and Information Dean Peter Bloniarz

I am very pleased at the progress we have made since creating one of the world’s first colleges of computing and information. We offer UAlbany students unique and powerful programs that teach them how to use technology and information to best meet the needs of any organization.  In the post-Google™ era, so much of the success of an information system depends on how it meets people’s needs.

Through our departments of Computer Science, Information Studies, and Informatics, we offer innovative and cutting-edge programs that develop students into better learners and leaders who will succeed in a myriad of professions. We offer excellence at great value.

In addition to educating Computer Science and Information Studies undergraduate majors, we also offer programs that teach all students how to use information technology more effectively in their fields of interest, whether they are business, science or even the fine arts.

Our partnerships with business, government, schools and nonprofit organizations provide invaluable, real world learning experiences and enrich society at the same time.  Recent joint projects have included two with New York State: one to strengthen the state’s level of cybersecurity; another to improve school instruction through better use of media.  In 2004, our faculty collaborated with UAlbany’s Center for Technology in Government to produce a report on the information needs, problems and successes which occurred in the response to the 9-11 attack on the World Trade Center.

I want to thank you for visiting our Web site. I welcome your suggestions and advice as we move forward into tomorrow.
