There are multiple account types, identification numbers, userids, and passwords that can be used at the University at Albany. Here we will provide a brief description of the most common ones you will encounter while at the College.
Windows Active Directory & Email Account
In order to log onto the University network, faculty, staff, and students will need a network account. Network accounts use your individual NetID and password to logon to the UALBANY domain.
To obtain these accounts: employees of the College need to have an active HR record; and for students, the account is created when they can successfully set their MyUAlbany password.
For employees new to the University who do not have an HR record or an active HR record, there is an expedited process with HR to have their entry added/updated. For more information, visit the ITS New Employee page.

NetIDs for new faculty, staff or students will be automatically created by the system using the first initial of the first name, first initial of last name and 6 randomly generated numbers.
The NetID is used in conjunction with a password to access multiple electronic services such as MyUAlbany, UAlbany Mail, Blackboard, and for creating web pages.
The NetID can also be referenced as Network login or Unix login.
This six-digit number is assigned to all students, faculty, and staff. For employees the PIN will be generated the following day once he or she has been entered into the HR database. Student PINs are generated the following day after the admission deposit has been made and accepted.
Students and employees will need their PIN to obtain their NetID and set/reset their passwords for MyUAlbany, IAS, and UNIX services.
You can obtain your PIN by calling the ITS Help Desk at (518) 442-3700 or visiting the ITS Help Desk in LC-27.
