Keeping with the University at Albany’s tradition
of social service, about two dozen students belonging
to the Presidential Honor Society joined the Boy
Scouts from Fourth Avenue in South End to clean
up the blight in the area as part of the 17th
annual Make a Difference Day on October 27.
Armed with brooms, garbage bags and rakes, the enthusiastic
group of volunteers picked weeds and trash from
sidewalks. Katie Novak and Nick Fahrenkopf, both
College of Arts and Sciences students, pictured
above are members of the honor society volunteered
for the clean-up drive. Katie is a journalism major
and Nick is a physics major. The other students
from the College who participated were Sam Hyland
(Journalism), Jen Caputo (Biology), Rob Seidler
(Psychology) and Dale Paynter (Biology).
The Presidential Honor Society at UAlbany was founded
in 1991 with the aim of creating dynamic group of
achievers within the University by promoting academic
excellence, personal and professional development,
and on-going service to the campus and the community.
