Marcy Isabella (right, pictured above) is a recipient of the 2008 Presidential Award for Undergraduate Research. Her English Honors thesis, "What Are We Doing Here? Young Adult Fantasy, The Academic / Interpersonal Literacy Divide, and Self-Disclosing Writing," directed by Professor Jeffrey Berman, draws connections between storytelling and ways of knowing in and outside of the academy.

As an undergraduate, Marcy was the president of Sigma Tau Delta - the English Honor Society. She focused the society's work on community service projects, including a monthly movie night with the youths from Parsons Child and Family Center.

Ms. Isabella has worked for many years in writing centers; first at Hudson Valley Community College and then at UAlbany. She also volunteers for Liberty Partnership's Rising Star Program, an after-school program for students from Albany's middle and high schools.

Marcy's goal is to obtain a Ph.D in Rhetoric and Composition, and to continue her work with writers and writing practices.
