Fareed Farhan Haddad is a senior at the University at Albany in the Honors College . He will be graduating summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. He was recently awarded the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence for his integration of academic excellence with accomplishments in the areas of leadership, athletics, community service, and career achievement. Next year, Fareed will attend the Stony Brook School of Medicine with plans to become an anesthesiologist or a radiologist.
Working under the direction of Dr. Cheryl Frye, Mr. Haddad completed a research honors thesis on his work with the anti-epileptic drugs, phenytoin and valproate. Fareed was awarded the Biological Sciences Excellence in Research Award for his research . He also is a recipient of the Undergraduate Research Endowed Fellowship and the Adelaide Schmid Research Fellowship. Additionally, he was awarded the Honor’s College “Irving Loose” Scholarship. Fareed has consistently been listed on the Dean’s List of Distinguished Students as well.
Mr. Haddad has been active in his community and has completed over 250 volunteer hours working with the St. Peter’s Hospital Emergency department. During the winter break of 2009, Fareed joined a group of colleagues on a two-week volunteer mission trip to Ecuador where he worked with homeless and underprivileged youths, providing them with an opportunity to learn English and become involved in sports and art projects. Fareed is a member of the Presidential Honors Society, Phi Beta Kappa National Honor Society, National Society of Collegiate Scholars, and Psi Chi National Honor Society in Psychology. Fareed currently serves as the treasurer of the Pre-Med club and is co-organizing a medical mission trip to Uganda and El Salvador through the SUNY Chapter of the Foundation for International Medical Relief of Children. Fareed is looking forward to medical school and will always cherish the great education and wonderful experiences of the University at Albany Honors College.
