Graduate of Economics Appointed to Top Level Position
Valerie Grey, recently appointed to serve as Chief operating officer for the NY State Education Department, has a bachelor's and master's degree from the UAlbany Economics Department.
She will report to the NY State Education Commissioner David M. Steiner. She will be the senior manager for operations and work with all members of the senior management team. One of Ms. Grey's first priorities will be to align SED operations and budgets in order to advance the Regents reform agenda and produce defined educational outcomes, an issue that has been in the press recently.
Ms.Grey has held a series of critical positions in NY state government. She was Governor Patterson's Director of State Operations with responsibility for day-to-day operations of the State, First Deputy Secretary to the Governor where she developed the Office of Taxpayer Accountability and served as the Assistant Deputy Secretary for Health and Human Services along with other positions in the public sector including the Department of Health, the Office of the State Comptroller, and the New York State Assembly.
The Economics Department faculty is very proud of Ms. Grey's achievements noting from her recent and past positions that she is having a very rewarding career.
