Steve Messner, Distinguished Teaching Professor of Sociology, has been elected President-Elect of the American Society of Criminology (ASC). The ASC’s objectives are to encourage exchange among researchers, teachers, and practitioners in the fields of criminology and criminal justice and to promote the accumulation of high quality criminological scholarship. In pursuit of these objectives, the Society conducts an annual meeting and confers awards for outstanding achievement. ASC currently has over 3,000 members drawn from nations throughout the world. Professor Messner will assume the position of President-Elect at ASC’s November annual meeting this year and will begin his term as President in November of 2010.
