Professor Phyllis Galembo, Department of Art, has been awarded a New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) Fellowship in Photography. The Fellowship will provide unrestricted funding for Professor Galembo to use as needed to continue her work. Founded in 1971, NYFA’s goal is to empower artists at critical stages in their creative lives. Previous recipients have gone on to win Pulitzer Prizes, Guggenheim Fellowships and many other honors.
Professor Galembo has an MFA in Photography/Printmaking and has been a full professor at UAlbany since 1997. She has had one person exhibitions at the International Center for Photography and the American Museum of Natural History (NYC). The author of three books, she has been the recipient of a Fulbright Scholar Senior Research Award to Nigeria. Professor Galembo’s work has brought her recognition with appearances on CNN, NPR Radio and NBC Today in New York City. Professor Galembo has completed a new book, Maske, which will be published in October by Chris Boot, London.
