Antun Milas

Professor Antun Milas of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics has received an NSF grant to study Algebraic and Number Theoretic Aspects of Vertex Algebra Theory.

Dr. Milas' research interest is in the area of vertex algebras and two-dimensional conformal field theory. Currently, he is working on algebraic aspects of two-dimensional conformal field theory, by using vertex algebras. Such new algebraic tools, which arise in physics, can be used to solve concrete problems in mathematics and theoretical physics.

The research project will allow students to be involved at both the graduate and undergraduate level. It is anticipated that this project will be the subject of a Ph.D. thesis of one of Dr. Milas' graduate students. In addition to his research, Dr. Milas enjoys teaching, especially calculus within the Honors College.

Dr. Milas graduated with a Ph.D. from Rutgers University and spent his postdoctoral time at the University of Arizona and RPI. He has been at UAlbany since 2004.
