Questions about OCR

On Campus Recruiting

The On-Campus Recruiting (OCR) Program is a structured process facilitated by Career Services to bring students and employers together on campus to participate in interviewing opportunities. Through participating in OCR students are also eligible to have their resume sent to employers who request a Resume Referral, but are not interviewing on campus.

If you are an employer, please go to our employer page to learn about how you can participate in On-campus recruiting.

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?
Only University at Albany Juniors (looking for internships) or Seniors (looking for full-time jobs) are eligible to participate in OCR. Approximately 75% of OCR employers are interested in all majors; therefore, all majors are encouraged to participate. Freshmen and Sophomores are encouraged to register with Career Services, as registration is the first-step in become eligible to participate in On-campus Recruiting.

NOTE: If you are not a registered student on this campus you will not have access to the system, as we check Release Form information against the University at Albany student database.

HOW DO I KNOW IF OCR IS RIGHT FOR ME?
To determine if OCR is right for you, begin by reviewing the list of employers that are coming to campus this semester. Once you have completed an orientation, you will be able to review the specific positions being recruited for by each employer. Know that OCR represents only one segment of the overall job market for graduating Seniors and Juniors looking for internships. Some career fields and some types of employers are well-represented in OCR; others are not. Ultimately, you must make the decision as to whether or not to participate in OCR. If OCR does not seem to provide the types of opportunities that you want, make an appointment with a career counselor to discuss other ways to conduct a job search.

WHAT IF OCR DOESN'T MATCH WITH THE KIND OF WORK I'M LOOKING FOR?
OCR is only one means to finding a full-time job or internship. The opportunities available through OCR are driven by employer demand and budgetary considerations, therefore, not every career field or type of employer is represented in OCR. Career Services can help you expand your job or internship search with a variety of resources within our library and on our web site. Make an appointment with a career counselor to start developing you job search strategy.
