Workshops and Events

Throughout the semester we host a variety of programs that include: lunch-time and evening workshops on career topics; career panels that feature professionals talking about their careers; and workshops relating to life skills. We also host career fairs, including our annual Job and Internship Expo which is held every February and features over 100 employers. Check out our complete event schedule.

If you would like to schedule a career workshop for your club or sorority/fraternity, contact Career Services.

One-on-one Counseling

Career Counselors are available to talk with students about any career-related topic. You can make an appointment to meet with a counselor during our regular business hours. Counseling appointments are usually for 30 minutes and are confidential.

If you wish to practice or refine your interviewing skills, consider scheduling a mock interview. You can schedule a mock interview in person or by calling Career Services. You will need to provide a copy of your resume and information about the job for which you will be "interviewing." This helps the counselor to prepare appropriate questions. To get the most out of a mock interview you should treat it like a real interview. Show up early and dress for success.

If you have a quick question or wish to have either your cover letter, resume, or personal statement critiqued, you can stop by during our drop-in hours. Drop-in hours are held every weekday, and are descigned for quick (less than 10 minutes) questions and reviews.

To schedule a 30 minute appointment, stop by the Career Services office in the Science Library Room G50 or call 437-4900. Our drop-in hours are

Mon. - Wed. - Fri.: 10:00am - 12:00noon
Tues. - Thurs.: 1:00pm - 3:00pm

Career Assessment Tools

Career Services offers different types of online assessment tools that help you explore skills, interests, values, and possible career paths. No test can tell you what career you are supposed to have, but many students find it helpful to have a personalized list of options from which to choose. If you are interested in taking an assessment, set up an appointment with a counselor so that together you can determine which test is right for you. After you take the assessment, you will meet with that same counselor again to go through your results and discuss your next steps.

Website

The Career Services website has a variety of career-related resources for our students. These resources can help you explore different career options, develop your resume and cover letter, prepare for an interview and look for a job or internship. There is an online employment site titled UA CareerPath, that allows students to both look for and apply to specific job and internship opportunities. Our website also includes a variety of presentations on career topics. Additionally we have resources for students who are interested in furthering their education and want to research graduate programs.

We are continuously updating our website so check it often and send us your comments.
