Media Advisory/Photo Op: School of Public Health Tree Symbolizes Environmental Health, World Peace

ALBANY, N.Y. (December 14, 2007)

The University at Albany's School of Public Health will host a tree planting by Nasim and Jafar Edrisi, an Iranian couple who have set off on a round-the-world cycle to promote environmental health and peace.

Background:
In April, Jafar Edrisi and his wife, Nasim, departed their native Iran for a 20,000 kilometer trip around-the-world, forwarding a message of peace and friendship from the Iranian people to different countries. During their tour, the couple is also planting trees in different cities, creating a "green line" around the world to help the environment.

So far, the couple has biked through many countries in Europe. In September, they arrived in Canada, where they cycled roughly 1,600 kilometers around the country to plant peace trees in Toronto, Montreal and Ottawa. Last month, they arrived in the U.S. and will travel from Plattsburgh to Albany before proceeding to New York City and Washington D.C.
