The University at Albany's New York State Writers Institute named Kurt Vonnegut the New York State Author in 2001, an honor he held until 2003. In his early days, Vonnegut worked at General Electric in Schenectady, and his late brother Bernard was a Distinguished Professor of Atmospheric Science at UAlbany.
