Rare Books and Films Augment Center for Jewish Studies' Archive
ALBANY, N.Y. (March 20, 2007) -- The University at Albany Center for Jewish Studies has received a compilation of more than 450 books and films -- many of which are rare and out-of-print -- from alumna Marjorie Ferrugio Delmar, '58. She donated the books and films in memory of her husband M. Michael Delmar, M.D. to enhance the study of the intellectual and historical understanding of the Jewish experience. The Center is calling the compilation the Collection of Jewish Thought and History.
The books and films, which will be accessible to students, faculty and staff, span a diverse range of Jewish Studies topics, including ancient biblical times, the medieval period, the Holocaust, Israel, interfaith relations and current events.
The Center for Jewish Studies was established in 2001 to advance the University at Albany's ongoing commitment to overall academic excellence and in particular to the field of Jewish studies. A Jewish Studies Advisory Board, made up of distinguished community leaders and nationally renowned scholars in Jewish studies, provides valuable input regarding both the Center's initiatives and the growth and expansion of the Department of Judaic Studies.
The Center extends the reach of Jewish studies at UAlbany and the SUNY system through new educational initiatives, innovative community-wide programming, scholarly endeavors, and distance learning.
