"Ethics for Public Historians"

Theme: In conjunction with the Association of Public Historians of New York State (APHNYS) Spring Conference, CAHR offered a workshop entitled, "Ethics for Public Historians" (2:45-4:15pm) and sponsored a lecture at 8:00 pm by historian Russell Shorto, “The Island of the Center of the World: The Epic Story of Dutch Manhattan and the Forgotten Colony that Shaped America."

"Researching Local History," "Writing and Publishing Local History," and "Historic Preservation."



Date:  April 18 - 20, 2004
Theme:  The Association of Public Historians of New York State (APHNYS) Spring Conference.   In conjunction with the APHNYS Spring Conference, the Center for Applied Historical Research reprised its past workshops on "Researching Local History," "Writing and Publishing Local History," and "Historic Preservation."
Location: Silver Bay, Lake George, New York.

Researching, Writing, and Publishing Local History.



Date: October 4,  2003
Theme: Researching, Writing, and Publishing Local History. This workshop took participants from the first step of doing local history—the research—through the process of writing and presenting that research to the public. Speakers from the Oral History Program at the University at Albany, the New York State Museum, as well as published town and city historians, guided participants through the process of doing oral history, as well as textual and photo research, and offered advice on publishing that research in newspaper columns and books.
