Paul J. Loatman, Jr., Mechanicville City Historian since 1992, has written one book and a number of articles on local history. Loatman holds degrees in history from Siena College, Fordham University, and the University at Albany where he wrote his doctoral dissertation on the history of Mechanicville. He taught high school American history for thirty years, and organized the annual Capital District History Day Conferences. He has taught history at The University at Albany, The College of St. Rose, and Union College. Active in community affairs, Loatman has served on the local School Board and is a Consulting Party of the EPA’s Hudson River PCBs Superfund project.
