Weekend MBA: Awards Program

The Weekend MBA Program offers two separate scholarship programs to incoming and current students. Both programs are based upon academic merit and financial need. Students who meet chamber of commerce rules as outlined below are highly encouraged to apply under that program.

That program is specifically for members of the following chambers of commerce:

  • Adirondack Regional Chamber of Commerce
  • Albany-Colonie Regional Chamber of Commerce
  • Bethlehem Chamber of Commerce
  • Guilderland Chamber of Commerce
  • Rensselaer County Regional Chamber of Commerce
  • Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce
  • The Chamber of Schenectady County
  • The Chamber of Southern Saratoga County

The other program is for students who have academic credentials and have financial need, but do not meet the chamber of commerce rules as outlined below.

Award application packets must include:

  1. Application
  1. Employer Support Letter (required for all applicants)
  2. Chamber Support Letter (if applicable)

General Application and Award Procedures:

  • To apply, students must submit a completed General Award Application with a letter of support from their employer.
  • The employer support letter needs to reference the company’s tuition reimbursement policy in addition to verifying the applicant’s annual salary.  If the employer does not verify the applicant’s annual salary, then the applicant needs to include a copy of his or her most recent W-2 as part of the application materials.
  • Awards are for one academic year only.  Students may re-apply for an additional year of funding beginning in April of their second year.  If employers have changed, new employer support materials must be submitted.
  • Applicants must complete the application in full to be considered for an award.  The Weekend MBA Program must receive complete applications, including all supporting documentation, by July 31.  All award recipients will be notified shortly thereafter.
  • Award applications will not be accepted if the individual hasn’t yet applied to the Weekend MBA Program.

All application materials should be sent directly to:

Donald G. Purdy, M.A., Director
University at Albany Weekend MBA Program

Business Administration 220
Albany, NY  12222

Additional Chamber of Commerce Award Application Procedures:

  • Applicants must be employed by or own a business that has been a member of a participating chamber for at least one year prior to Chamber Award Application.  Chamber dues must be paid before any awards will be made.
  • Applicants must submit a letter of support from their employer, which needs to reference the company’s tuition reimbursement policy in addition to verifying the applicant’s annual salary.
  • Chambers of commerce may require students to submit other information to help them decide to support a student for the award.
  • All application materials should be sent to member chambers before the July 31 deadline.
  • The chamber of commerce personnel will forward all applications, employer support documentation, and a letter of support from the chamber president or a chamber staff representative to the Weekend MBA Program for review.
