1. What majors are offered by the School of Business?

There are two majors in the School of Business - Accounting and Business Administration. For information on available concentrations, please see #2 and #3 below.

2. What concentrations are offered for the Accounting major?

There are no concentrations in the Accounting major.  Accounting majors have an automatic minor called Business Administration, but are strongly encouraged to complete a Liberal Arts minor, which requires at least 18 credits in another area outside the School of Business.

3. What concentrations are offered for the Business Administration major?

The School of Business offers a variety of concentrations and combined concentrations.  You must select one of the following to graduate with a degree in business.

15 credit concentrations
Marketing
OR
Information Technology Management

18 credit concentration
Financial Analysis

18-credit combined concentrations
Management/Marketing
Marketing/Finance
Management/Finance
Marketing/ Information Technology Management
Management/ Information Technology Management
Finance/ Information Technology Management

You must select a concentration or combined concentration to graduate with a degree in business.

4. How do I apply to the School of Business and when?

FRESHMEN: UAlbany Freshmen can be admitted to the School of Business as intended majors by declaring their intent during their initial advisement session at Freshman Orientation. A School of Business major declaration form must be signed and submitted to the Advisement Services Center/Undergraduate Studies (ASC/US) or Educational Opportunities Program (EOP) academic advisor. Students must maintain a 3.1 average overall and at least a 2.85 for the core course categories taken at Albany to remain a School of Business major during the freshman and sophomore years.

UALBANY STUDENTS: Students who did not declare their major as School of Business as freshmen can apply for admission to the School of Business once they have attained junior standing (56 credits) and have satisfied all of the admission core course categories.

TRANSFER STUDENTS: A transfer student can be admitted to the School of Business by declaring their major as either Accounting or Business Administration at the time of their application to the University as long as they have met the following criteria:

- Completed at least 32 degree applicable credits by the end of the spring semester preceding their summer or fall admission to the University, or by the end of the fall semester preceding their spring admission to the University.

- Must have a final cumulative average of 3.1 or higher and have maintained at least a 2.85 average in any designated core course categories completed elsewhere. At least 4 of the 7 designated core course categories must be completed prior to matriculation
