1. Can I take some of my junior level courses early so I can study abroad during my junior year?
You may not take 300 or 400 level business school courses until you have completed at least 56 credits. You are encouraged to complete General Education courses and other requirements early to be able to study abroad with fewer problems. You should plan on taking many of your electives abroad.

2. Can I get credit for an internship over the summer?
No, but you may do an internship for payment in the summer.

3. How many credits do I have to take per semester?
Undergraduate students are considered full-time if they are registered for 12 or more credits. An undergraduate student may drop below 12 credits without permission, and will therefore be classified as being "part-time". Note: this may affect financial aid and health insurance eligibility.

4. How many credits can I take per semester?
Undergraduate students can take up to 19 credits per semester without any special action. If an undergraduate student wishes to take more than 19 credit hours, he or she must fill out a General Academic Petition form available from the Dean of Undergraduate Studies in LC-30.

5. What courses can I take pass/fail?
For graduation, the student is limited to a maximum of 2 courses of "S" by selection in courses below the 300 level. These 2 courses of S may be in addition to all S grades received in department or school designated S/U graded sections or courses. You may not take Business School admission core courses S/U.
The grade of S is defined as equivalent to the grade of "C" or higher and is acceptable to fulfill graduation requirements.
The grade of U is unsatisfactory and is not acceptable to fulfill graduation requirements.
You cannot take a 300 or 400 level course S/U.

6. What are the writing requirements for graduation?
Every student must complete two writing intensive courses. One must be a lower level course outside the School of Business and one must be an upper level course within your major or concentration. It is usually a course that ends with a "Z".
Note: Your upper-level (usually your second writing course) writing course will be in your concentration if you are a Business Administration major and Acc 461Z if you are an Accounting major.
A final grade of less than "C" in a writing-intensive course does not meet the writing intensive requirement.

7. If I drop a course does it show up on my transcript?
If a student drops a course before the deadline to drop a course without a grade of "W" (withdrawn without academic penalty), the course does not show up on his or her transcript and it is treated as if the student never took the course.
If a course is dropped after the deadline to drop a course without a grade of "W", the course is assigned a grade of "W" and appears on the student's transcript as such.
Students cannot drop a course after the deadline for the last day to drop a course. If a student registers for a course but never attends and never drops the course, the course will be indicated with a "Z" on his/her record.

8. How do I transfer credit from courses I have taken at another school towards my degree?
In some cases special permission may be given to take 300 or 400 level courses elsewhere, but in general, students should plan to take 300/400 level School of Business courses at the University at Albany.
Note: 300/400 level Economics courses, other than Eco 300, can only transfer from a four-year institution. Eco 300 very rarely transfers, and usually must be completed at Albany.
To transfer elective courses, a transfer of credit form must be filed with the Registrar's Office

The request for such an exam must be made to the instructor in the appropriate course no later than two weeks before the last day of classes of the given semester. The makeup examination should be given within the final examination period.
