Graduate Accounting Programs

University at Albany is known throughout the accounting profession as an outstanding source of talented graduates in accounting. Our faculty is deeply involved in standards bodies and industry trade groups. We also maintain close working relationships with the Big Four accounting firms to ensure that our curriculum provides the training needed of tomorrow’s leaders in the accounting field. This collaboration with industry gives our graduates outstanding opportunities for networking, internships, special projects, job placement, and career advancement. 

Widely Respected Graduate Degrees in Accounting

The School of Business’s unique dual AACSB accreditation acknowledges the strength of our programs in accounting and management. We are also widely known for the breadth of our degree offerings, each designed to impart the necessary knowledge for a specific accounting specialty. We offer a total of five pathways to the graduate accounting degree.

Degrees for Students with Accounting Undergraduate Training

If you have already earned a B.S. in Accounting (or equivalent), you can earn your Graduate accounting degree with a 30-credit course in one year. Depending on your desired professional path, choose from one of the following four degree options:

Degree for Students New to Accounting

For students interested in pursuing a career in accounting, but who do not possess an undergraduate degree in accounting or business, we offer a two-year, 60-credit program, the Master's of Science Degree in Accounting. This program is specifically designed to meet the needs of students from a diverse range of nonbusiness academic backgrounds. We also offer a part-time evening option, which can be completed in 3-4 years. Students completing this program meet the 150-hour CPA education requirement.

We also offer a 30-hour, 1-year Masters of Science in Tax Practice program. This program offers working tax professionals who do not have an undergraduate accounting degree the opportunity to become highly skilled tax specialists.
