Financial Analyst Honors Program

The financial analyst concentration for business administration majors allows you to share an integrated educational experience with a small group of motivated students who have earned a GPA of 3.5 or higher.

This honors program provides you with individual mentorship, rigorous coursework, smaller class seminars, and special activities designed to help you develop a successful career in financial analysis and investment.

Information Systems and Business Analytics

Discover the ways information technology and data management systems impact organizational strategy and how they can be used to solve business problems.

This concentration area provides you with skills in predictive analytics and teaches you how to develop business and accounting applications using relational database tools and domain-specific programming languages such as Structured Query Language (SQL).

You may either concentrate solely in information systems and business analytics or in one of the combined areas of study listed below.

Marketing

Concentrating in marketing equips you with the knowledge and skills to better understand, analyze, and manage consumer behavior, customer and business relationships, and firm strategy. You will practice applying tools and strategies used by businesses today to identify potential customers, introduce new products to the market, develop branding and advertising campaigns, and analyze market data. You will also be exposed to emerging trends in marketing analytics, services marketing, and social media and digital marketing. 

You may either concentrate solely in marketing or choose a combined area of study that will complement your career goals.

 

Opportunities for Applied Learning

Marketing instructors often collaborate with local companies to provide you with hands-on experiences such as working on applied projects for course credit. Additionally, you will have opportunities to collaborate with marketing faculty on research projects to gain practical exposure to how marketing research is conducted. Marketing students typically complete at least one internship before graduation.

Internship Opportunities

Gain practical experience in your area of interest by completing an internship with a local, national, or global organization. The Massry School of Business enjoys strong relationships with employers in and beyond the Capital Region, and most business administration students complete at least one internship as part of their program of study.

Accelerated Undergraduate/Graduate Option

You can save time and money by beginning your graduate degree coursework while still enrolled as an undergraduate student. Up to 12 academic credits, billed at the undergraduate rate, will count towards both degrees – so you’ll complete your combined program in only 5 years and spend less than you would if you completed each program separately. 

Combine your Business Administration degree with the MS in Information Science program. This ALA-accredited master's program covers a broad range of interdisciplinary topics related to library science, information processing, information management and data analysis.

Getting Admitted to the Undergraduate Major in Business Administration

Declaring the Business Administration Major

Most UAlbany students fulfill their general education requirements during their freshman and sophomore years, and then declare their major. 

Business administration is a competitive major. To be admitted, you need to complete prerequisite core business courses and earn an overall GPA of 3.25 or higher. 

If you’re transferring to UAlbany, you can apply for admission as a business major as long as you meet all of the academic coursework and GPA requirements.

Entering the Business Program as a Freshman

To be part of a select cohort of high-achieving students who move through the business administration program together over four years, you can apply for direct admission. 

This option is designed for highly qualified students who want to develop peer relationships that support academic excellence and help them achieve their career goals. Learn how to apply for direct admission.

 

Ernst & Young World of Business 

If you’re directly admitted to this program, you can sign up to live with other business majors on the same floor in one of the freshman residence halls. As a member of this living and learning community, you’ll get to participate in special career seminars, field trips, and leadership opportunities funded by Ernst & Young.

 

 

Undergraduate Certificate in Business Analytics

The certificate in business analytics, with a focus on applied analytics, teaches data extraction and analysis.

In this program, you will study all aspects of business analytics, including business intelligence and data mining. You will become skilled at creating systems that allow organizations to effectively use data and quantitative models to solve critical business problems and take advantage of new business opportunities. 

Be empowered with the knowledge and ability to analyze, design and deploy digital systems to extract insights from data through descriptive and predictive analytics, and use those insights to make strategic business decisions, enhance customer value, and increase profitability.
