Alternative Investments /Private Equity/ Hedge Funds
May 20-21, 2011
This spring the School of Business will host a research conference, Alternative Investments /Private Equity/ Hedge Funds, for a leading academic journal, the Journal of Corporate Finance. This workshop will feature a practitioner panel of School of Business alumni who manage private equity and hedge funds, and other types of alternative investment funds.  The event will be held at the SUNY Global Center in midtown Manhattan. Private Equity, LBOs, and Corporate Governance
June 25th, 2010
Private Equity, LBOs, and Corporate Governance convened experts from leading academic institutions in the U.S., U.K., Germany, the Middle East, and Canada to produce a special issue of Corporate Governance: An International Review.  Professor Donald Siegel, Dean of the School of Business co-edited the special issue with Professor Igor Filatotchev of City University London and Professor Mike Wright of the University of Nottingham.  Dean Siegel also organized the conference.  Professor Wright, the director of the Centre for Management Buy-out and Private Equity Research, the first center established to study private equity and buyouts, delivered the keynote address, Private Equity: The Golden Age Has Ended, Building a New Future. UAlbany alumni Alan Mantel, Partner-Snow Phipps, Frank Petraglia, Senior Manager-Ernst & Young, John S. Sturges, Director-Investments Oppenheimer & Co and David H. Waterman, Managing Director-DeltaPoint Capital Management, LLC , served on the panel.

5th Annual Symposium on Information Assurance (ASIA ’10)
13th Annual New York State Cyber Security Conference
June 16-17, 2010

The two day event, academic symposium and conference, explored the latest cyber security challenges how to address them. Speakers included experts from around the world representing government, academia and industry. A variety of both technical and non-technical sessions were attended by individuals from the public and private sectors, including those working in the areas of information technology, academia, law enforcement, and the legal community.

The Annual NYS Cyber Security Conference is organized by the University at Albany, State University of New York and the NYS Office of Cyber Security & Critical Infrastructure Coordination.  This conference provided crucial training to enable the workforce proactively manage and effectively meet the challenges of cyber security threats.

Corporate Social Responsibility and Environmental Sustainability
Sept. 25-26, 2009

School of Business Dean Don Siegel organized a major academic conference (with Marc Orlitzky of Penn State University and David Waldman of Arizona State University) on Corporate Social Responsibility and Environmental Sustainability. The conference produced a special issue of Business & Society, the leading academic journal in the field of ethics and social responsibility.

UAlbany alumnus James Walsh provided the keynote address. Participants included experts from leading academic institutions such as Johns Hopkins, Duke, Harvard, Rice, Penn State, Arizona State, Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich, UCLA, UNC-Chapel Hill, and the University of Michigan. International Conference on Digital Forensics & Cyber Crime
September 30 -October 2, 2009

The ICDF2C, the first of its kind, brought together practitioners and researchers to discuss traditional computer forensics and related information security concerns. Professor Sanjay Goel organized the event, which was sponsored by the School of Business in collaboration with the Institute for Computer Sciences, Social-Informatics and Telecommunications Engineering and Create-Net, as well as the New York State Police and the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services. Professor Ingrid Fisher, Chair of our Department of Accounting and Law, served as Conference Co-Chair.

Technology Transfer Society Conference: Entrepreneurship and Innovation Clusters
October 17-18, 2008

The Annual Technology Transfer Society Conference connects academics and practitioners, the private and public sectors, and a variety of social science and engineering disciplines. Past conferences have covered Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Emerging Issues in Technology Transfer, and Entrepreneurship and Technology Commercialization. The focus of the 2008 conference was is Entrepreneurship and Innovation Clusters. The conference was co-organized by Professor Donald Siegel, Dean of the School of Business and Professor Pradeep Haldar of the College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering. The keynote speaker, Dr. Marie Thursby from Georgia Tech discussed Technological Innovation: Generating Economic Results (TI:GER). A collaboration between the Georgia Institute of Technology and Emory Law School, TI:GER brings PhD, MBA, and law students together to learn about the challenges of commercializing technology.
