Concentrations
Students' concentrations are built from 4 specialized courses and a
year-long field research project with an information thrust. The
application areas of these projects can be systems design and
development, human resources information systems, marketing, financial
information or production. Students choose one of the following three
specific concentrations:
Information Technology Management: Students in this concentration
learn to manage the information resources of an organization and to use
information technology to store, process, and communicate that
information. The program integrates computer technology, management
science, expert systems, and decision support courses with a field
project. Recent projects have included executive information systems for
top managers in both the public and private sectors; expert systems for
financial services and product engineering; designing financial
databases; and development of decision support systems for planning and
control.
Human Resource Information Systems: This concentration blends a
comprehensive education in human resource management and consulting
skills with information systems. Courses focus on human resource theory
and practice, effective application of information systems, and leading
skills. Projects focus on areas such as total quality management, human
resource information systems, compensation and benefits, training and
development, applying emerging technologies and organizational change
and development.

Information Assurance: This program offers students the opportunity to learn the accounting, business and technical skills necessary to become professionals in Information Assurance. The students completing this concentration can expect to begin careers in security and assurance related practices in accounting firms, management consulting firms, information security and privacy firms and other employers who have needs in the area of information security, audit and security.
