May 15th, 2011 – Undergraduate Student Commencement Ceremony
The University at Albany celebrates the graduation of its undergraduate students, the class of 2011 at the Entry Plaza Lawn at the top of Collins Circle at 10:00 am.
May 15th, 2011 – Undergraduate School of Business Ceremony
Following the University-wide ceremony, the School of Business recognizes its own. The Class of 2011 will graduate from the University at Albany at 1:00 on May 15 in the SEFCU Arena, with doors opening at noon for parents and guest seating. The School of Business at the University at Albany is proud to present awards to top students in accounting and business, at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Awards include the Wall Street Journal Award, Dorothy Mitchell Selleck Scholarship, Jean F. Glickstein Endowed Scholarship, Rose C. Anacreonte Endowed Scholarship, Henny Family Scholarship, Dick ’69 and Estelle Schecter ’70 Scholarship, and thirty others.
May 4th, 2010 – Beta Gamma Sigma Induction Ceremony
Beta Gamma Sigma is the international honor society serving business programs accredited by AACSB International - The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. Membership in Beta Gamma Sigma is the highest recognition a business student anywhere in the world can receive in a business program accredited by AACSB International. A select group of high achieving students will be inducted on May 4.
April 29, 2011 –Research Workshop Presentation
The Research Workshop's final presentation will be on April 29 in BA 322 at noon. James Follain, Senior Fellow at the Rockefeller Institute of Government at the University of Albany will be presenting a paper, “A Look at US House Price Bubbles from 1980-2010 and the Role of Local Market Conditions.”

April 29th, 2011 - G3 Begins
Going Green Globally is the name of the project that the first year students must complete before their first year in the program is finished. The MBA students are divided up into groups to become real-life consultants for various corporations in the Albany area. This vigorous two week program allows for the first years to use what they have learned in the classroom all year long in order to provide long term financial and sustainability goals for the organizations they are working with. This is an unbelievable experience that gives students a chance to their own research, develop a strategy, and present their findings to their entire class as well as the CEO of their company.
April 28th, 2011 - Beta Alpha Psi Banquet
The Eta Pi Chapter of Beta Alpha Psi at the University at Albany will be hosting this member only banquet to celebrate another successful year for their fraternity. Members of Beta Alpha Psi will be accompanied by many professionals and faculty members that have devoted their time and efforts to the organization. This banquet will be held at The Desmond in Albany, and is a great way to end the year for the SUNY Albany Chapter. There will be a cocktail hour as well as a dinner that gives members of the student group a perfect opportunity to network and meet professionals from the Capital District. April 3rd, 2011 – World Climate Exercise
The Department of Information Technology Management, School of Business and the UAlbany Student Sustainability council invite all students to an interesting simulation and policy exercise. This exercise is a computer simulation based role-playing exercise that gives groups of 10 to 50 people an experience of reaching a global agreement to mitigate future climate change. The World Climate exercise helps people quickly learn the policy-relevant science of climate change, experience international dynamics, and try and craft solutions to challenges while taking a realistic look of the changes ahead as we shift to a low carbon global economy. The event will take place inside Business Administration room 219 between 1:00PM and 4:00PM. Space is limited for this exercise, so please e-mail gogreen@albany.edu to reserve a spot for yourself.
April 8th, 2011 – School of Business Research Forum
Pamela S. Tolbert is the Chair of the Department of Organizational Behavior at the ILR School from Cornell University, and will be discussing her paper entitled, “Institutional Theory and Organizational Decision Making: From Small Groups to Herds”. Professor Tolbert has compared many different papers including topics on institutional theory, conformity in small groups, and informational cascades of herd behavior. The paper she will be discussing on this day is an experiment designed to explore the implications of these combined perspectives for understanding factors that affect the relative influence of informational and normative conformity pressures on organizational decision-making. Light refreshments will be served, and those interested should arrive before noon as this forum will begin on time at 12:00PM in Business Administration room 322.
March 18th, 2011 - School of Business Research Forum
Dongling Huang, the Assistant Professor from the Lally School of Management and Technology at RPI, will be visiting our school to make a presentation called "Observational Learning and Networking Externality in Decision-Making". This interesting presentation will take a look at movie sales data in order to help us understand how consumers make a purchasing decision. This will explore the two different sources of information that consumers consult: word of mouth and other consumers' purchase behavior. Light refreshments will be provided and this event is open to all students at the University at Albany. Those who would like to attend should report to Business Administration room 322 at 12:00pm, as the presentation will start at noon.
March 15th, 2011 - Women Excelling in Business (W.E.B.)
The W.E.B. is holding their first meeting of the Spring semester in the University Alumni House's Main Conference Room(on the second floor). The University at Albany's Chapter of ALPFA (Association of Latino Professionals for Finance and Accounting) will be inviting a guest speaker to present advice on resume and interviewing skills. The guest speaker that is scheduled is Stacey O'brien, an Ernst & Young campus recruiter. The presentation will start promptly at 8:30PM in room 211 of the Business Administration building located on the Uptown Campus. February 11th, 2011 - HRIS Concentration Lunch
First year MBA students must pick a concentration to focus on in their MBA degree. This complimentary lunch is held for all students that are considering the Human Resource Information Systems choice for their concentration. Attending this lunch are all the first year students who are interested in this program, second year students who are currently studying this concentration, professors who teach this material, and alumni who have graduated with an MBA degree with a focus in Human Resource Information Systems. This is a perfect opportunity to learn important information and ask any questions regarding the curriculum that the student will spend the following year working through.
February 4th, 2011 - ITM Concentration Lunch
First year MBA students must pick a concentration to focus on in their MBA degree. This complimentary lunch is held for all students that are considering the Information Technology Management choice for their concentration. January 25th, 2011 - Finch Paper Site Visit
The first year students in the Full-Time MBA program were given the opportunity to travel to Finch Paper Corporation. At this visit, the students divided into small groups and given a full tour of the facility and were able to see the step-by-step production of different paper products. The CEO of Finch Paper gave up some of his time to come and talk to the first year MBA students as well. The CEO alongside a panel of other employees answered any questions the group had come up with during the field trip.
October 12th, 2010 - Hedge Funds Discussion
The School of Business will host an event called, "A Discussion of Current Events in a Complex Financial Environment". The event will include two guest speakers, Todd Goldman & Chris Montclare, who have extensive experience in hedge fund management and investment partnership. They will talk about current issues and receive questions from the audience after the presentation. This event is sponsored by Beta Alpha Psi and Delta Sigma Pi. This event is free and is open to the public.
September 22nd, 2010 - ABLE Information Meeting
The Albany Business Leaders Emerging (ABLE) serves as an organization where students can express their leadership qualities, teamwork skills and professional abilities by being positive role models within the community, by working together to overcome challenges, and by learning different aspects of business to become more prepared for the business world. There will be a meeting for all students interested in joining this club at 7:15, inside of LC18.
May 5th, 2010- Albany Professional Research Forum
The Masters of Business Administration Research Forum returns this year, marking the 9th anniversary for this showcase of Evening MBA student research. More than 40 students will display their research on a variety of topics and business plans including new age management tactics, relationships between complex finance topics, and new venture developments. The event will take place at the NanoFab North building from 5:30PM - 7:30PM.

The Full-Time MBA program and Full-Time Accounting students come together for a lunch in the park to celebrate another successful year. Traditionally, the event has been a big success filled with a year full of memories and future plans for students. It is a final activity for the second year students who have just graduated, and get ready to take on the business world and its challenges.

Beta Alpha Psi will be hosting its annual banquet on Thursday, April 29. The event is open to the entire school and will take place off campus at 6:30. April 21st, 2010 - Launch Event for Open Stage Media
Free Stage Marketing (FSM) will host a press conference to announce a new initiative, Open Stage Media (OSM), at Proctors. The event will take place from 5:00PM to 6:30PM at the Wright Family Atrium at Proctors theatre in Schenectady. The event also is open to the public and will include guest speakers, giveaways, snacks, and more! It will be a great opportunity for community members to learn more about public access television, which empowers individuals and organizations to share their voice and vision within the community.
April 8th, 2010 - Business Ethics and Today's Economy
Mark Boucher‘06, Vice President for Operational Administration for Price Chopper Supermarkets, a graduate of the Weekend MBA program and a member of the School of Business Advisory Council, will talk to students about the current economy and how we can change it. Boucher will touch upon how weak business ethics have entered every sector of our economy, and how the current economic slump taxes even the most ethical business persons. This lecture will take place in BA220 from 12:00PM-1:00PM.
March 23rd, 2010 - Careers in Human Resource Seminar
This presentation will help students learn how to get a job in Human Resources (HR). Many guest speakers will provide advice and give insight into their career paths. Key guest speakers include representatives from GE research, SEFCU, Pitney Bowes, Clearview Center and Janitronics Facility Services. The event welcomes all students from the university and will start at 6:00pm in LC18.

Guest speaker, Rev. Dr. Paula J. Gravelle will be visiting the University at Albany Campus. Dr. Gravelle is the Chair of Ethics committee at Ellis Hospital and will speak in BA220 from 4:30-5:30. She will discuss corporate/business activities requiring the use of ethical decision making principles
March 3rd, 2010 - NY State Renewable Energy Legislation
The Advocacy Coordinator for Solar One, Chris Neidl, will speak to students about how to get involved and fight for renewable energy in New York State. He will discuss the benefits of the Empire State Feed-In Tariff and how you can get involved in getting the legislation passed. The event is sponsored by the UAlbany School of Business chapter of Net Impact, and will begin at 8:00 P.M. in Lecture Center 6.

February 23, 2010 - Announcing of Annual Regional Business Climate Survey
At 11:00AM, at the University Hall Atrium, the results of this years survey will be released. This was developed to respond to the chambers and prospective clients seeking to assess the regional business marketplace and how it will affect their contracting, expanding, and hiring. Kevin McCoy (CPA of Marvin and Company), George Phillip (President of UAlbany) and Donald Siegel (Dean of the School of Business, at the University at Albany) will all be there to speak out about the event, now in its 24th year.

Assistant Professor of Finance at UAlbany, Christopher Faugere, has prepared an hour long presentation to take place in Business Administration room 220. The seminar will cover multiple topics including the worst and the best potential of Finance. This seminar will start at noon, and conclude at 1:00PM.

February 12th & 13th, 2010 - Training The Street
Training The Street (TTS) is the world's leading financial learning services company offering customized training to corporate and educational clients. On February 12th, TTS will give an Introduction to Corporate Valuation lasting almost 5 hours, which is an overview of popular valuation techiniques used by finance practitioners. On the following day, February 13th, TTS will teach an Introduction to Financial Modeling course which provides the required Excel foundation for participants purusing careers in finance. The main goal of this seminar is to assist students seeking employment on Wall Street and in the field of finance.
February 10th, 2010 - Internship/Job Search Workout
The Graduate Student Office for MBAs has put together an hour class on helping students learn helpful tips for employment. The class will cover what resources the University has to offer, the best search practices (how to reach our alumni), and how to land the position. The event will begin at 10:30 inside Business Administration room 220.
December 8th, 2009 - The DLC All-Nighter
This event is sponsored by the Deans Leadership Council at the University at Albany. It will be held on reading day inside the School of Business lobby. The event will serve students free food and refreshments to help students stay awake who are studying for final exams. What a perfect way to study than with all your peers, snacks and caffeine! Refreshments will be put out at 4:00PM, and will include coffee and red-bull.

October 23rd – November 25th 2009 – Thanksgiving Food Drive
Albany Business Leaders Emerging (ABLE) are hosting a food drive this year in order to help stock the shelves of less fortunate homes for the holiday season. Donations can be made on all on-campus quads, and ABLE has a goal of 500 pounds to collect. Any donation of a non-perishable food is a huge help, and will make the holidays much better for someone else!

Guest speaker Christophe Faugere will be presenting an economic lecture on campus from 3:30 pm to 5:00 pm. This seminar will be located in room 130, located inside the business building.

The Mills Law Firm is collaborating with a senior-level Integrated Marketing Communications class in the University at Albany’s School of Business. They will be sponsoring a food drive that will benefit The Regional Food Bank of Northeast New York. There will be live entertainment from DJ Rookie from JAMZ 96.3 as well as giveaways, raffle prizes, and refreshments will be served.
The food drive will take place on the podium of the UAlbany campus, near the small fountain outside the Campus Center.
The Mills Law Firm, LLP, a civil litigation firm located in Clifton Park, is aiming to become a more active part in the community and to increase awareness of their expertise in their various litigation fields.
