Evening MBA: Student Profile

Students entering the Evening MBA Program come from a wide variety of backgrounds encompassing all major for-profit employers in the Capital Region, state and federal government agencies, small and entrepreneurial organizations and all aspects of the not-for-profit arena.

Students come to advance their current careers, or start new ones. Students come for specific knowledge (and find our elective tracks very beneficial), to better understand the integration of core business functions and pursue a general MBA degree, or to study in an international learning environment. But whatever their reasons, they all share some common characteristics: they are intelligent, highly motivated, committed to their program of study, and ready to make short term sacrifices in order to gain long term achievements.

Our students have at least three years of professional work experience and have demonstrated career growth and potential. Our students have been successful in their undergraduate academic studies and some have already successfully completed graduate degrees. They have demonstrated ability in reasoning and analytical capabilities, and have the ability to communicate their ideas clearly. The program embraces all types of diversity from background to work experience, ethnicity to undergraduate majors. Students do not need to have an academic or functional background in business to succeed in the program. If you are ready to work and ready to learn, then the Evening MBA Program at UAlbany may be the right place for you to begin graduate studies!

Alumni Comments:

Chris "With an Engineering background, I wanted to create new career opportunities for myself by expanding on my business knowledge. The MBA program has given me the tools to apply my analytical skills more effectively in areas like finance, information technology, marketing, and change management. Above all of this, my favorite benefit still has to be the friends and connections I've made throughout my time at UAlbany." - Chris O'Connor, ‘08,Manufacturing Engineer, Ducommun Aerostructures

Garba "After surveying various state-wide part-time evening MBA programs, I decided on SUNY Albany's, a decision I would make again.  The work experience required of students enhanced peer classroom discussions, the school's robust course offerings provided flexibility, and faculty willingness to help students succeed made it an all around commendable program. Being in a financial/accounting career for a few years, I had not expected to learn as much as I did in any graduate program. However, the education/experience boosted my capabilities at work and broadened my knowledge on the larger world of business management - I am a better professional for it." - Oiza Garba, ‘08, Senior Financial Analyst, General Electric Company

Salik “It has been an enduring pleasure to be a part of the Evening MBA program at the University at Albany. The program taps into internationally reputed faculty who provide much needed tools for success. I have greatly benefitted from the diverse group of students that the program attracts. The MBA has been most rewarding in professional development- I was selected for a Change agent position for my corporate company upon graduating from the program. I now travel and understand multiple dynamics of change in a complex and challenging business setting.” - Ayub Salik, ‘08, Change Agent, Operations, Oldcastle Materials, Inc.

Wilary “The Evening MBA Program had a tremendous impact on my career path.  It provided a firm foundation needed to pursue my professional interests and afforded me opportunities to advance in areas that would have not otherwise been available to me.  In addition, the multi-faceted curriculum in the MBA Elective Tracks allowed me to develop a diverse understanding of the field of my choice along with collaborating and networking with fellow students in similar professions.” - Christa Wilary, ‘02, Business Analyst, NYS Department of Labor
