IHRIM/Edward S. Goldmacher Scholarship

The International Association for Human Resource Information Management, Inc. (IHRIM) established this scholarship program in 1994 to commemorate the life and industry contributions of in honor Mr. Edward S. Goldmacher, one of the association’s founding members and early leaders. Mr. Goldmacher, who served as IHRIM President from 1982 through 1984, was a strong proponent of the Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) profession and the development of its future leaders.

During the 1983-84 academic year, under the direction of Professor Michael J. Kavanagh, the Human Resources sub-program of the MBA at the School of Business was in transition from a traditional HR program to a specialization in HRIS. Professor Kavanagh contacted Mr Goldmacher, who was the current President of IHRIM, for his assistance in the development of a curriculum for the HRIS specialization. Mr. Goldmacher volunteered both his time and expertise to help develop a program that combined the best of both the academic and professional fields of HRIS. He also provided the keynote address at a one-day conference held in the Fall of 1984 to formally recognize the beginning of the HRIS MBA program. Though the following years, Mr. Goldmacher continued to provide advice to the Management department in regards to its HRIS course curriculum and offerings.

The HRIS MBA program has been highly successful, with our graduates normally having several job offers at the completion of their program. The School of Business owes a debt of gratitude Mr. Edward Goldmacher. Without his help and counsel, the program could have not been as successful. It is through this connection that IHRIM, in coordination with Professor Kavanagh, decided to give the scholarship fund to the School of Business.

It is based on the academic merit of the student and interest in future study the Human Resources Information Management field.
