Human Resource/Information Systems Specialization

Companies succeed, or fail, based on the quality and effectiveness of their employees. Today's leading firms recognize the need for world-class human resource (HR) managers who are active participants in strategic and operational decisions. The practice of HR is undergoing a technological revolution. Enterprise systems, cloud computing, Web 2.0, social networking, and human resource information systems (HRIS) are transforming the way that HR is practiced.
The University at Albany HRIS specialization is designed to prepare students to be highly competent in traditional HR skills and in the use of leading-edge software such as Success Factors’ cloud-based HR software, Employee Central. With an HRIS concentration, you have the skills to become an HRIS professional or a technologically savvy HR leader.

The UAlbany Difference

In the UAlbany HRIS concentration, classes are small and the professors are dedicated to your success. Our professors are among the leading experts in the field of HRIS and have written books and reports for the leading HR professional associations and leading academic journals.
We know that rigorous coursework alone is not sufficient to prepare students for today’s organizational environment. Instead, students need experience working with HR technology in actual business settings. At UAlbany, the centerpiece of our HRIS program is a two-semester “field project” where students take on a significant consulting project in human resources or human resource technology.  This allows students to better understand the application of HR technology to real-world business challenges.
