Professor Smith's teaching and research interests include corporate finance and investments. He has received the President's and Chancellor's Awards for Excellence in Teaching. Along with co-author and UAlbany alumnus William Desormeau, he received the Financial Frontiers Award for excellence in research from the Financial Planning Association and Janus-Intech. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and Certified Management Accountant (CMA) designations. He is Associate Editor (Finance and Accounting) for the Journal of Business Research.
