Fisher Named Associate Dean

Accounting Chair Ingrid Fisher ’79, ’82,’02, has been named associate dean of the School of Business, succeeding Hany Shawky who is serving as interim dean.

Dean Shawky referenced Dr. Fisher’s unrelenting dedication and commitment to the school. He said, “Her effective leadership has built a strong accounting program, one of the best in the northeast. She will help us advance the school to the next level of excellence.”

Fisher is a true UAlbany product, having earned a B.A. in Psychology, an M.S. in Accounting and a Ph.D. in Information Science at the University at Albany. She has taught full-time since 1985 and was named chair of the accounting department in 2008.

During her tenure as chair, she hired five accounting faculty, instituted the VITA program in which graduate students provide tax help to low income members of the community, worked with accounting firm EY on the LEAD Scholars Program to mentor and support under-represented students and with PricewaterhouseCoopers on the World of Accounting Living Learning Community for incoming freshman. Dr. Fisher revitalized the Milton C. Olson Ethics Seminar. She is the recipient of many awards, most recently the EY Inclusive Excellence Award and the SUNY Chancellors Award for Excellence in Teaching. Dr. Fisher started her career in the world of public accounting: first at Coopers & Lybrand and then moving to Arthur Place & Co.
