Kathleen M. Tanner '67, '71, '98
Kathleen M. Tanner ’67, ’71, ’98 is the executive director of Equinox, Inc., a community-based organization in downtown Albany that provides care to homeless and at-risk youth, victims of domestic violence and their children, and adolescents and adults struggling with substance abuse. She has had a long career in public health in the public and not-for-profit sectors, and has a particular dedication to work at the community level.
One of a small group of volunteers who founded Equinox, Inc., Ms. Tanner has been associated with the organization in various capacities since its inception in 1969. She has served on its board of directors for a number of years and in 2009 returned to Equinox Inc., when she was appointed its executive director. In her current position, Ms. Tanner actively promotes collaboration between Equinox, Inc. and the University at Albany’s School of Public Health through a number of initiatives.
Ms. Tanner also worked for St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital’s Center for Comprehensive Care, a New York state-designated AIDS Center located in New York City. Earlier in her career she worked for the New York State Department of Health as the director of the Office of Professional Medical Conduct, serving under Commissioners Dr. David Axelrod and Dr. Mark Chassin.
Ms. Tanner received her bachelor’s degree and graduate degrees in Education and Public Health from the University at Albany.
