Department of Biological Sciences
Biological Sciences is one of the fastest growing areas of human knowledge and technology. This growth impacts on many areas from basic knowledge of biological systems to practical applications in medicine, the environment, forensic science, human behavior, and many other areas. The teaching and research within the Department of Biological Sciences covers a broad spectrum of interests yet find common grounds in the shared technology, use of model organisms, and a focus on the fundamental principles that govern biological systems.

Flag bearer for Winter Commencement
Ei Ye Mon will be carrying the College of Arts & Sciences flag for the Winter Commencement on Dec 6. Ei, who is graduating with a B.S. in Biological Sciences, has been doing research with Dr. Kurt McKean.

Hua Shi and Al Millis funded by NCI
Hua Shi and Albert Millis have received grant support from the National Cancer Institute of the NIH for a project designed to develop innovative means to treat a form of aggressive and recalcitrant breast cancer.
Gonder returns from Workshop on African Chimps
Dr. Katy Gonder just returned from workshops in Limbe, Cameroon and Calabar, Nigeria. The workshops were focused on developing a conservation action plan to preserve the chimpanzees in Nigeria and Cameroon.
Introduction to Emergency Medicine Clinical Research
Biology, in conjunction with AMC, will again offer a new course in Spring 2009; prereq: Bio 365 or three 300/400 level courses. Information in Biology Main Office.

Kevin Liu awarded Fellowship
Yuanyuan (Kevin) Liu has been awarded an American Heart Association Predoctoral Fellowship for his research.
