Leadership Award

Kim Williams, a major in Biological Sciences, received one of the President's Great Dane Awards for leadership.

Distinguished Animal Behaviorist

Professor Emeritus Jerram Brown was chosen to give the Distinguished Animal Behaviorist lecture at the 2008 Animal Behavior Society meeting. Dr. Brown is well known for his work on Sociobiology and on the biology of Mexican Jays.

Science Education Grant Funded by NSF

PR photoDr. Hua Shi (Biology), Dr. Rabi Musah (Chemistry) and Denise McKeon (Biology) have received a National Science Foundation (NSF) grant in the amount of $999,999 from the "Science, Technology and Engineering Program". This grant will establish a "Center for Achievement, Retention and Student Success" to provide, among other things, tutoring and mentoring services for all biology, chemistry, earth and atmospheric sciences, mathematics and physics majors enrolled in lower division "gateway" courses.  The grant was one of only two funded in the U.S.

Dr. M Larsen Awarded Two Research Grants

M. LarsenDr. Melinda Larsen is collaborating on two projects funded by the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research. One titled "Engineering Functioning Salivary Glands using Micropatterned Scaffords" is awarded for two years; the other titled "Modeling Dynamics of Salivary Gland Branching Morphogenesis" is awarded for five years.

Snowy Owl Visits Campus

A new species was added to the campus bird list when an immature Snowy Owl was sighted in the Social Sciences Courtyard on 11/25/08. The owl was more attentive to the crows that were mobbing him than to the numerous students and staff photographing him. MORE...
