Financial Aid & Housing

Financial Aid:
All applicants are automatically considered for graduate assistantships and fellowships. All students admitted to the PhD program are supported with tuition and competitive stipends from teaching assistantships, research assistantships, and fellowships. Stipends for the first year of study in the PhD program range from $16,000 to $18,000 with stipends of up to $21,000 available for highly qualified students. To be eligible for fellowships you must apply by February 15, but there is no deadline for assistantships. Although applications for teaching and research assistantships have no formal deadline, they are awarded on a rolling basis, so apply early. Limited support may also be awarded on a competitive basis to MS students.

Housing:
Most graduate students live off campus, where they can easily commute from affordable housing located in a variety of urban, suburban and rural settings. This includes apartments with rents estimated at $220 to $300 per month per person for a three-bedroom apartment, and rooms at $60 to $90 per week. On-campus apartments are available however, for graduate students. A single room in a three-bedroom apartment costs $5,142 for the academic year. The cost of optional meal plans (including a kosher provision) is $1,753 for twenty meals per week. For detailed, updated information see the University web site: http://www.albany.edu/housing .
