Spring 2008 Notes:
- Graduating Seniors.... Graduation Weekend is May 17-18. Plan to attend your University Graduation Ceremony and the Departmental Recognition Ceremony. The University Undergraduate Ceremony is Sunday; The Graduate Ceremony is Saturday morning; The Biology Undergraduate Recognition Ceremony is Saturday at Noon. Watch UAlbany email for information on the Biology Recognition Ceremony.
Your Invitation and Reservation form have been mailed to your address of record (3/28/08). If you do not receive it within a few days, you can download the necessary form as a pdf, print it, and deliver or mail it back to the Department as instructed. You should register and reserve seats by April 18--SEATS ARE LIMITED!

- April 25, 2008 - Undergrad Research Symposium - required after 2 registrations of ABIO 399 or 499 (or Z component).

Bio 402 - Evolution .....C. Stewart, K. McKean
Bio 343 - Evolutionary Biology and Human Health.....I. Wang
3 credits.
This course illustrates the importance and utility of evolutionary perspectives on various topics related to human health. In addition to the "how" questions, this course also introduces the "why" questions. Various evolutionary hypotheses are examined. Arguments for and counter-arguments against each hypothesis are presented to foster understanding of each topic. Selected topics include infectious diseases, pathogen virulence, allergy/asthma, mental health/addiction, genetic disorders, diseases of civilization, sex, pregnancy, and aging. Prerequisite: a course in genetics

ABIO 399/499- Supervised Research
- Complete the Permission Form
- Obtain a Permission # from Robert Osuna in LS 2062 (for Non-Bio Dept supervisors) or Blanche Feck in Bi126 (for Bio Department supervisors)
- Register for the Class
- Expect a minimum of 3 hrs/wk per credit
- May 8 - Graded (A-E) Research papers due and must have Permission Form as cover sheet.

Katherine Vario Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded each year to a woman undergraduate in her junior or senior year at the University at Albany with orientation toward a career in dentistry, medicine, or medical sciences. Application Deadline is February 11, 2008.
