Speaking in behalf of the Bagatelle family was Hedy’s son, David Bagatelle, President & CEO of Herald National Bank. He emphasized his mother’s strong attachment with her alma mater.
Hedy received her Bachelor's degree in History from UAlbany in 1960 and worked as a teacher before becoming involved in the fashion industry. Over the years, she was an avid supporter and advocate for public higher education. She served on The Foundation Board of Directors, the Center for Jewish Studies Advisory Board, and several University committees, including the Library Development Committee. And, in 2005 she helped to secure the Czech Torah Scroll - one of the most enduring and valuable University projects in recent years.
Her distinguished service and contriutions to her alma mater are a legacy remembered fondly by the entire campus community, and the Hedy Schwartz Bagatelle Courtyard remains a wonderful tribute to an extraordinary leader and alumna of the University at Albany.
