Graduate Students Received Scholarship

School psychology graduate students Kyle Sutton and Vanessa Costanzo were recipients of the 2012 “Dr. Frank J. Filippone ’41 – Hillside House Scholarship” for their work supporting individuals with developmental
disabilities.

Dr. Ami Klin was the 2012 Distinguished Guest Lecturer

CARD was excited to host distinguished autism researcher, Ami Klin, Ph.D. in an event for medical professionals and a session for parents and non-medical professionals on January 25th.

CARD Albany's Program and Students Recognized for Contributions to the Community

UAlbany was named to the 2010 President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll for student contribution to community-engaged service. At the Center for Autism and Related Disabilities, students helped faculty and staff develop effective educational programs and conduct other activities, contributing to the Center’s training of almost 7,300 individuals in 2009-10.


Overwhelming Turnout to Annual Guest Lecture by Nationally Recognized Autism Researcher

Approximately 75 medical professionals and over 200 parents and non-medical professionals were in attendance for the annual distiguished guest lecture series on autism. The speaker was Dr. Robert Schultz, director of the Center for Autism Research, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. He presented the topic "Progress in Identifying the Biological Foundations of the Autism Spectrum Disorders."

CARD Albany Presents Research at International Symposium on Autism

CARD Albany graduate students presented a research poster at the 2010 Geneva Centre for Autism International Symposium on Autism this past November in Toronto. The poster detailed the results of a study examining typically developing fir st grade student's attitudes towards a peer with behaviors indicative of autism.

New Online Format Being Offered for Required Training

CARD Albany is pleased to announce it is now offering the required 3-hour NYS Education Department autism training course, "Responding to the Needs of Students with Autism Spectrum Disorders," in an online format.

Dr. Robin Brewer spoke at CARD Albany's 9th Annual Conference

On Friday, October 29, 2010, school personnel, family members, and community professionals from 35 New York state counties attended The Center for Autism and Related Disabilities' 9th Annual Conference at the Holiday Inn on Wolf Road in Albany, NY.

CARD Director Receives NYS Office for People with Developmental Disabilities Grant

Dr. Kristin Christodulu received funding from the OPWDD for CARD Albany, in collaboration with CapitalCare Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics, to develop and deliver an education program for parents of children recently diagnosed with autism.
